Today, I’m sharing ALL my fave plus size Y2K fashion brands, to make it easier for YOU to put an outfit together!!! <3

Plus Size Y2K Clothing

Something that many people have pointed out online is that the Y2K clothing trend is not thaaaaat friendly to plus size bodies. There’s lots of flat midriffs, belly buttons, etc. I will never forget seeing an iconic Gap commercial in the 90’s with singing belly buttons, showing off the super low rise jeans. What a world!

Something that many people have pointed out online is that the Y2K clothing trend is not thaaaaat friendly to plus size bodies.

BUT, something that I know us plus size babes are good at doing is taking a trend and making it ours — in a super fun and body positive way! In celebration of all of the fabulous plus size Y2K fashion lovers, I’ve put together this rad blog post full of my recs for plus size Y2K clothing.

Finding where to shop for plus size Y2K fashion options and outfits can be pretty frustrating, so today I’m sharing a roundup of both plus size Y2K fashion brands and specific plus size Y2K clothing!

I’ve noted measurements and pricing where applicable, and always make sure to check the price and sizing before checking out! The measurements on size charts can vary wildly!

What is plus size Y2K clothing?

If you’re a BIT confused on what the heck plus size Y2K clothing is, you’re not alone! Y2K clothing references the trends of the dot com era in the early 2000’s (also called the “aughts”). Generally, Y2K clothing includes:

  • Velvet tracksuits
  • Sunflower dresses
  • Shiny Fabric
  • Miniskirts
  • Butterflies! (All of the butterflies (clips, tops, dresses, etc)
  • Grunge references
  • Black mule clogs
  • More butterflies!
  • Hair bandanas
  • Button down dress shirts with thin stripes
  • Lowrise jeans
  • Wide leg jeans that trail on the ground and get muddy (that might just be me, lol)
  • “Double Denim” so denim on top AND bottom
  • Baguette Bags (almost rectangular purses)

Before we get started, I ‘d like to share three of my best tips for plus size Y2K clothing:

  1. HAVE FUN! There’s lots of sparkle, shiny things, butterflies (I know I keep talking about butterflies, but I can’t help it, lol!) to be had! Jump in!
  2. Nervous? Test out accessories! If you’re not sure if you want to go full y2k, start with accessories like chunky clompy shoes, butterfly clips, bright rectangular sunglasses, etc!
  3. Start with a Sunflower Dress: In my opinion, a plus size sunflower dress is almost TIMELESS! This can be a great wardrobe staple forever, even as y2k fashion goes in and out of style! Another option is to start with double denim — you probs already have denim in your closet!

#2 Y2K Fashion Plus Size: Amazon

When looking for plus size Y2k fashion on Amazon, you have to get a bit creative (in my experience).

  • Sizing: Because Amazon carries a LOT of brands, size charts for all clothing are different. Be sure to look for a size chart in the product images (in my experience, it’s usually the last image). I also like to check out the revies and set the filter to “reviews with photos” to get a sense of fit.

Below, I’ve shared some of my favorite plus size Y2K fashion from Amazon:
